One to One Training Day with Sally Gainsford, Fine Art Photographer, Cambridgeshire

If you want to master soft, flattering studio lighting that works for any portrait, this one to one training day is designed to take you from setup to finished image with confidence. Salli Gainsford is a fine art photographer and educator specialising in large soft box lighting, posing, composition, and post production. You will work at your pace, on the type of portraits you love, from character portraits to family work, including animals.

Schedule, 9.00am to 4.30pm

9.00am Arrival, coffee, and planning your day. We will chat through what you want to create, what you currently struggle with, and what you want to walk away able to do. We will tailor the day to your goals.

9.30am Studio setup and camera settings. You will learn how to set up large soft boxes for beautifully soft light, how to control direction and fall off, and how to set your camera for the look you have in mind.

10.45am Lighting patterns and posing that flatter. We will work through how to position your subject, how to see the light, how to refine angles, and how to build a portrait that feels intentional and well composed.

12.30pm Lunch provided.

1.15pm Guided shooting session with a model. You will photograph with Salli coaching you throughout, adjusting light, pose, expression, and composition so you can see exactly how to shape the final result in camera.

2.45pm Refining your look. We will review images, troubleshoot anything that is not working, and repeat the process until it clicks. If you want to adapt the setup for a different style, such as family portraiture, character work, or animals, we will do that too.

3.30pm Post production session. We will finish the day with editing and finishing, including a clean professional workflow to bring your portraits to life without over processing.

4.30pm Wrap up and next steps. You will leave with a clear plan for repeating the lighting at home, plus practical settings and guidance you can apply straight away.
